Motivational Quote

In the next couple of weeks I will be launching a podcast where I will interview people who love what they do for a living. To get you ready for this podcast, I thought I would bring you some quotes to keep you motivated when it comes to pursuing a career that you love:

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

― Confucius

“A good manager is a man who isn’t worried about his own career but rather the careers of those who work for him.”

― H. S. M. Burns

“It’s not what you achieve, it’s what you overcome. That’s what defines your career.”

― Carlton Fisk

“Think big and don’t listen to people who tell you it can’t be done. Life’s too short to think small.”

― Tim Ferriss

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
― Michael Jordan

“Work to become, not to acquire.”
― Elbert Hubbard

“The biggest mistake that you can make is to believe that you are working for somebody else. Job security is gone. The driving force of a career must come from the individual. Remember: Jobs are owned by the company, you own your career!”

― Earl Nightingale

“Think not of yourself as the architect of your career but as the sculptor. Expect to have to do a lot of hard hammering and chiseling and scraping and polishing.”

― BC Forbes

“I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as ‘making a life’.”
― Maya Angelou

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

― Thomas A. Edison

  1. These are some great quotes Deacon! My favorite though, has to be MJ’s. Truth be told, I loved watching him play when I was growing up but it nails the importance of continuing and not giving up. I like to have that same tenacity in running our business.

    • Thanks John! I couldn’t agree more. Failure is common occurrence with successful people, it is how they respond to failure that sets them apart.

    • Thanks Michelle! Yeah, that is a solid quote to remember. Sometimes we can get wrapped up in making a living and forget to have a life.

  3. I love these! This is my favorite:
“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” Thomas Jefferson

    • Nice addition Holly! It is amazing how “lucky” someone can appear who has worked hard to become successful in life.

  4. All great quotes. I really like the one about managing for your people’s career and not your own. Pretty rare to find.

My dad always used to say “can’t never did anything” Not sure where he got that from, but it has always stuck with me.

    • You’re dad sounds like a wise man. It is amazing how much our vocabulary can dictate our actions. Using words like “Can’t” or “don’t know how” can be self defeating. The more we say them, the more we believe them to be true.

    • Earl Nightingale is a quote master. Thanks for stopping by Bobby!

  5. I really like the quote from Confucius because that it so true. It’s not just some quote. People who love their job don’t consider it as their work. If they love doing it, it’s passion.

    • It is true. I love what I do and sometimes work longer hours not really even thinking of it as work. I do still have some tasks that I do not enjoy, but eventually I plan to hire a virtual assistant to handle those :)

  6. Great quotes! My favorite is “Think big and don’t listen to people who tell you it can’t be done. Life’s too short to think small.” ― Tim Ferriss

    • That is a good one. I have learned a lot from Tim Ferriss over the years.

  7. I wish more managers followed what H. S. M. Burns said. It would definitely make it more enjoyable to go to work when you have a good relationship and respect the person managing you.

    • That would be a great thing, for sure. Hopefully some managers are reading this post :)

  8. These are very inspiring quotes. I totally agree with the first one by Confucius. Working for what you love isn’t working at all. You get to enjoy things while earning and this is very important to have a long-time relationship with your career.
